I had the pleasure of meeting sweet Caroline and her family this fall for their holiday photos. It always thrill me when clients contact me again--not just because it means they liked my work, but also because I get to see how much their children have grown! And, Caroline has grown! She's an "on-the-go" 2-year-old now and loves to dig in the dirt and play in the rocks. We had a hard time keeping her adorable smocked dresses clean. :) Thankfully, we also had stickers and jelly beans and we stole a few smiles and pensive gazes from this precious, cherub of a girl! It was a beautiful day at the Dallas Arboretum today and the flowers are out in full bloom! If you've been thinking about a Spring session, this place makes a great backdrop. Meet beautiful baby Stella--plump, pink, and right at 4 weeks new. I had the pleasure of hanging out with this lovely family (and their gorgeous Golden Retriever, Sarge) this afternoon for a few hours. 4 weeks can be a tricky age to shoot because they don't sleep *quite* as much as a newborn (ridiculous, isn't it that in the "photog world", newborns are 2 weeks of age and under!). But, with the help of Daddy's magic rocking technique, we got some great sleepy baby shots as well as some bright eyed shots. So sweet! Enjoy your sneak peek, Jeff and Maggie! Yes, I skipped a week. Oops! But, I made up with it with LOTS of shots for me this week! Whee! Dallas saw a record-breaking amount of snow Thursday and Friday--12.5 inches--and the Clark house took full advantage of it. My sweet girl would play and play and play until she couldn't take it any longer and would break down in tears because she was "fwwweeeeezin'"! We aren't exactly prepared in these parts with snow suits or waterproof mittens, so the wet and cold got to us quickly. But, again--she was mesmerized by it and we were mesmerized watching her. These are the kind of shots I meant to take when I started this project--shots for me, shots of my life, shots that documented my most prized possession--my family. Here are a couple of shots from our snow days!

It was bound to happen. Being the habitual procrastinator that I am, I knew I would wait until the laaaaaaast possible second to snap a shot for my 52 weeks project. I didn't expect it to be in week 4. But, like many households, ours was a crazy one this week with meetings, workshops, retreats, ballet, playdates, etc. So, here's week 4. Still in our jammies at noon. But, know what? I still love this shot. It's SO her. And I love the light on her. I love her mischievous eyes, her cheesy smile (yes, she's saying CHEEESE, which I did NOT teach her). For my photographer friends, this is SOOC. For my non-photog friends, that means straight out of camera as in I did nothing to the picture except upload it and watermarked it. Like I said, it's been one of those weeks. :)

Another beautiful day in Dallas. Another beautiful baby and family. This family is one of my "baby planners", meaning I get to hang out with them several times over the next year, documenting baby girl's growth along the way.

Sweet, baby Annie was a gorgeous newborn and just gets prettier and prettier each week! Gotta love those bright blue eyes, long reddish lashes, and melt your heart smile. Mom and Dad are pretty cute too! ;)

80 degrees in January. Gotta love Texas winters! It was absolutely gorgeous this afternoon, so the girly and I ventured out to the park. The light was AH-MAY-ZING and Grace was having a blast. And, even though I begged and pleaded for her to let me pull her hair back before we got to the park, something about this one still makes me smile inside and out. Must be my mommy goggles. :)

It doesn't get any more "picture perfect" than this, folks. 70 degree weather...check. Gorgeous park...check. Amazing light...check. Ridiculously adorable family...check. A QUEEN...check!

I had the pleasure of hanging out with this Party of 5 on Sunday afternoon. And, wowsers. Such naturals in front of the camera! Take a look for your self.

Up first...the teenager. I guessed her age and was off by like 2 years. Umm...I was still shrimpy and awkward at 13. Yes, people. She's 13. Gorgeous, huh?

Next, the sweet middle child. Lover of all things Bakugan (because, I was informed that 7 year olds aren't really into princesses these days...I have a lot to learn). And, just as stunning as her older sister.

And then we have the little one...who wants to be the QUEEN. Or correction, who is the queen! Unlike her big sister, she is TOTALLY into princesses, which I know all about (my 3 year old would like for us to call her Cinderella). I fell in love with this girly girl's chipmunk cheeks and sweet demeanor.

Love this one of the 3 girls.

And of the whole fam. I told you...ridiculously adorable!

Little Miss Lindsay is already 6 months old--you might recognize her cherub cheeks and bright blue eyes from THIS session we did in October. We met on an absolutely PERFECT day this past weekend (seriously--15 degrees 1 weekend and 70 the next???) in downtown McKinney. Lindsay is growing like a weed and sitting up so big and tall! It's amazing how quickly they change.

Remember how I said one of the goals for my 52 weeks project would be to "shoot more for me"? Well, this one is CLEARLY one just for me. Every year, my daughter's amazing school has a huge fundraising auction. One of the items that is auctioned ever year is a "class pet". Each Pre-K and Kindergarten class has a pet--a stuffed pet. The classes vote on names for the pet, the teachers make a pet habitat, and the pet goes home for 1 night with each child. Well, Thursday night was a BIG night at the Clark house because Grace came home with "Penelope the Penguin". And of course, this was the perfect opportunity for me to document a milestone in my daughter's school career...her first bit of "homework".

So here they are, Penelope and Grace, all snuggled up in G's bed. Look how proud she is to have that silly, stuffed pelican. Don't tell my husband, but I might be tempted to bid on this thing. :D

Confession time. I am a terrible interior decorator. Or maybe it's not that I'm a terrible interior decorator, but I'm a terrible interior decorating decision maker. Ugh. I have the hardest time with wall displays in my home. Correction. I HAD the hardest time with wall displays. Check this out...NEW for 2010--print collections! And, a print collection just isn't complete without a display guide. :)

Hopefully, this will help you (and me) decorate our homes with the most priceless art we can ever own--our family memories!

I started a new little project this year. 52 weeks of 2010. The goal? To shoot for me. To be more creative. To capture memories for my own family. To think outside the box.

I love what I do--love meeting other families, capturing their children in the moment, just getting a glimpse of someone else's life for an hour or 2. I love the feeling I get when I see an image that I KNOW Mama and Daddy are going to flip over. But, I've realized that *I* rarely have those moments for myself. I just get busy with life sometimes and my camera (that's normally glued to my body) is left in its case, thus missing moments around La Casa de Clark.

So here it is. 1 of 52. Even though it was a brisk 29 degrees this afternoon, I bundled up Gracie and took her out back to jump in the leaves. Yes, leaves in January. Leaves that probably fell in October. Hey--don't judge! They're in the backyard. ;)

Whew! Only 5 days into 2010 and I've been super busy over here. Cleaning. Organizing. Purging. You know...stuff we ALL say we'll do in the New Year and then before you know it, there are 20 piles o' crap you have no clue what to do with. Blah. Story of my life.

Anyway, I've been working on some new and exciting business ideas that I think everyone will love in 2010.

First of all, I'm starting a 52 weeks project. The goal is to challenge myself. To think outside the box. To use lenses I never use. To refresh and invigorate! I tried this last year and I tapered off somewhere around March. Now, I've got all of you to hold me accountable. Look for entry 1 soon!

Next, I've reworked my pricing structure for 2010. I'm pleased to offer built-in early ordering incentives for simple sessions as well as 4 new print collections, designed to inspire you AND save you money. Early ordering incentives work as a print credit. So, a simple session is now $275 but $125 will go right back to you in the form of a print credit IF you place your order within 5 days. Neat, huh? I will also be offering print collections and yes--you can use your early ordering incentive towards print collections. Oh, and mini-sessions will now be offered 4 times per year. Dallas Photographer: A friendly reminder...

Tomorrow is the deadline for holiday orders. All orders should be placed by 7 pm on Saturday, December 5 to ensure their arrival before the holidays. The lab is doing everything they can to crank items out as soon as I place the order, but as the holidays approach us, it gets harder and harder. So, be safe and place your order ASAP!

Thank you to my amazing clients. I appreciate you all referring me to your friends and family this year. I also love getting new inquiries. At this time, I am booked solid through the rest of 2009--no wiggle room whatsoever! ;) I am now taking reservations for sessions in 2010. Generally speaking, I book out 4-6 weeks in advance during the spring and summer and 8-10 weeks starting in September. Just an FYI.

I'm working like crazy to get everyone's sessions uploaded THIS week. So, if your gallery is still in the works, be looking for that email this week.

All holiday orders should be placed by December 5 to be sure they arrive before December 20. I will be on vacation from December 21-January 3.

Whew! It's been a crazy, crazy, CRAZY few weeks. I am literally keeping the Starbucks near my house in business these days. So, it was totally fitting that I had some wild and crazy kids this morning (the good kind of wild and crazy...you know--life of the party, fun kind) AND that as their dad stopped in for some coffee this morning, one of the boys asked for coffee and to "Be sure it's decaf!" LOL! Too hysterical.

Anyway, I just adore this sweet group of kids. The baby boy was a little under the weather this morning and I'm sure we were QUITE a sight getting him to smile, but I think Nana and company will be happy with the results of our singing, dancing, and airplane flying. Oh so sweet! Check out this little porcelain doll! I met up with Baby C and her family this afternoon for a quick little session to capture some 6 month images. Warning! Cuteness overload ahead. Seriously. This family is beyond beautiful! I met them in their lovely home this morning to capture some images of their week old little guy and almost 3 year old. Cooper was wide awake for a lot of our session, but we waited it out and these sleepy shots were definitely worth it! And big brother--wow! I could just eat his sweetness up! He walked me to my car AND opened the door for me. I may have to set him and my 3-year-old up one of these days! ;)

Phew! First off--a quick announcement. I am officially BOOKED for the 2009 holiday season. I will only be accepting newborn sessions for the remainder of 2009 (previously scheduled sessions excluded). Thanks so much for making 2009 the best ever for Kristie Clark Photography. I've enjoyed every minute!

Now, on to the sneak peek. This lovely mommy and I met when our precious 3 year olds were born. We belonged to the same baby board (though she was a few months ahead of me due date wise) and realized we lived in the same town. Life got in the way of us actually meeting until last year when we met up with me for a holiday mini-session. The D family has grown up so much in that year and we met up again for another holiday mini-session!

I love capturing these moments and I always leave my sessions feeling so good...even if the session was a tough one! But, I'll tell ya--nothing feels better as a photographer than when you have a client that keeps coming back or refers you to their friends over and over again. Another holiday mini-session from this weekend! I got a call on Friday afternoon that this session *might* not happen. The little guy took a tumble at the fair and had to have 8 stitches in his chin! Poor thing. But, he was super brave and gave me some great smiles even though he was probably really uncomfortable. And the little girl was a tough sell, but nothing that my crazy dancing couldn't break. Remember, you PROMISED not to tell anyone about my dancing skills from 1997. ;)

Just mere minutes after this session ended, it started raining. Originally, we had this session scheduled for 5:30 pm. When the weather here in Dallas turned overcast and chilly (well, chilly for Texas), I emailed mom and said we could shoot whenever. Good thing too because it was near dark at 5:30 tonight!

Sweet, sweet baby girl. She was just so...so sweet! And cuddly. And tough--she was NOT sleeping no matter what we tried! Thankfully, she closed her eyes long enough to capture some of those squishy, sleepy baby shots and laid contently with her eyes wide open for some bright and cheery "HERE I AM!!!" shots too. :) And, gotta love this laid back and awesome family--poor things were the victims to my camera crash earlier in the week and then to Mother Nature's downpour this morning. Happy Labor Day! I got to spend an hour this morning with this adorable family. I've known Daddy Lav for about 10 years now, but we lost touch over the years and thanks to that awesome and addicting social networking forum known as Facebook, we reconnected. Mama Lav is so sweet and kind and Baby Lav has both her parents' laid back and cool demeanor. They were so calm and collected...even when my camera started giving me some crazy error message toward the end of our session. Thankfully, we'd already captured some memory gold! My baby girl turns 3 next week! THREE! I can't believe it. It seems like only yesterday she was a cuddly little preemie, keeping me up at all hours of the night and worrying me sick over things like how many wet diapers she had that day or how much weight she was (or wasn't) gaining. Now, she worries me sick over things like refusing to hold my hand in the parking lot, potty training (99% there), and lots and lots of "choices". She's a spitfire, full of life, and looks so much like her Daddy, it's unreal. <3

You'd think that I would have all the patience in the world since a) I'm a Kindergarten teacher by day and b) I take kids' pictures ALL THE TIME. But, this little session only lasted about 15 minutes as Mama (aka me) was lacking patience and Lil Mama (aka Grace) was lacking the desire to be photographed. We'll give this another go on a better morning. ;)

She thought it was HILARIOUS that I was getting so irritated with her antics. Guess it was worth something, huh?

Last weekend, we took a little trip down to Bryan/College Station to visit my family. While we were there, I decided to torture...I mean photograph...the three cousins together in hopes of getting something worth framing. Luckily, my camera shutter is fast because they were far from interested in a photo shoot at 6:00 in the evening, with the temperature right around 100. I wasn't either, but I'm glad we went out for that 20 minutes!

I'm long overdue for this post. Clients often ask me about different sizes of prints, ways to display their prints, etc. I'm finally getting around to showing some examples of 2 of my favorite ways to display work--fine art canvas and the J Lee Albums. The first is a canvas print. This particular image is of a gallery wrapped canvas. In order to avoid my sweet, little girl's hands being wrapped around the side, we put a black border around the edge of the image, but 90% of the time, the image is wrapped all the way around. It's truly a work of art. Something that should be displayed prominently. This canvas is 16X20 and I have it hanging in my front hallway, right at the entrance of our home. It's a conversation piece, for sure.

The next is a newborn album I just finished. This album is included with all pie a la mode sessions and can be added a la carte with any session. It includes (20) 5X7 images from your session. Welcome to the wold, Baby B! This sweet and teeny thing is the brand, spankin' new daughter of a co-worker. She weighed about as much as my lil one did. As the year comes to a close, I've had the privilege of meeting many families in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I am so blessed!

Here are some of my most favorite images of 2008 (note: I had a very, very tough time choosing. I had to get help from fellow photographers, family members, and other unbiased sources to narrow down my fave 4). Vote for your favorite image (one time per day, please). The winner will receive a 16X20 canvas print of the image! Ugh! This was hard to give to my client. I just love, love, love this album. Love it so much that, in 2009 I'll be including these awesome albums in all maternity and newborn sessions AND will offer these a la carte as well! Look for pricing in early 2009.

This is a custom designed, leather-bound album. The pages are panoramic, meaning they span across the entire page. Perfect for those who can't decide which prints to display in their home, but want something to preserve the memories.

Oh, and excuse the less than stellar snaps. My home iMac is having issues (sniff, sniff), so I'm on a different machine until I can that one into the Genius Bar at the Apple store. :)

This is my beautiful little sister, Randi and her 3.5 year old daughter. Randi helped me out in a big way yesterday, serving as kiddo corral patrol during my mini-sessions. Last one for tonight, folks!

This family was the lucky winner of my blog contest earlier this fall. Congrats! At first, we weren't real sure how things were going to play out as the little E-monkey wasn't too keen on staying in one spot. However, my awesome assistant (who is really just my sister, but assistant sounds so professional AND I'm paying her) came to the rescue by playing peek a boo with an Elmo puppet behind my head. It even got the 4 year old giggling. Love that!

Closing the books for 2008

Thank you so much for allowing me to capture your memories on film (or, um...CF card). Kristie Clark Photography is officially booked up for the rest of 2008. I can squeeze in a few more mini-sessions at Prairie Creek Park on November 23rd, but other than that, I am not taking anymore sessions before the holidays. Again, thank you for your interest, friendship, and most of all, thanks for the fun! I love what I do!

PS Look for some specials in January. I'll have another blog contest, plus a few specials for newborns and seniors in the new year.
